Our Shared Water Future.
BE PART OF THE SOLUTION
Involvement from everyone who uses groundwater and is invested in the long-term wellbeing of our community is critical to our success. Beyond this initial work by the Harney Community-Based Water Planning Collaborative, there will be many opportunities to lend your voice and support strategies, actions, and policies that will shape our shared water future for decades to come. Let’s work together to make it happen.
WAYS TO PARTICIPATE
Talk about the water situation with friends and neighbors so they are more aware.
Attend public sessions to hear from peers and share your perspective (next meeting).
Sign-up for our newsletter for updates, funding opportunities, and ways to get involved.
Visit Harney County Watershed Council for further information on the collaborative.
Check out Harney County Hay & Forages Association on Facebook for irrigator-specific support.
“I want to encourage everyone to think about how we can manage water in a way that considers multiple interests, values our interconnectedness, and fosters collaboration. The stories we tell are powerful beyond measure. . . and encourage us to work with our neighbors to build communities that reflect our collective values.”
— Harmony Burright, OWRD place-based water planning coordinator
REMEMBERING A HARNEY WATER CHAMPION
Local Hines resident, author, and former watershed council member Diane Rapaport was passionate about raising awareness and public concern for water issues in the Harney Basin. Diane served as a coordinating committee member of this place-based water planning effort, providing sage advice that is a legacy to our community.
Before her passing, she kept a blog called “Future of Water in Harney County”—with the last post made June 2019 (read it here). Her leadership and perseverance continue to inspire our work today and into the future.
Thank you Diane.
